Love and respect, while related, are not the exact same thing.
There are truths that stand on their own regardless of who the messenger is. Those whom we love and respect are perhaps ideal deliverers of truth, but that which is ideal may not be entirely in line with what is real. Personal bias can affect how honest loved ones actually are, and honesty is a hallmark of respect.
An adversary, although not loved by their opposition, can still be respected if they accurately assess the behaviour of the opposition. They may be able to recognize things loved ones do not. Although an adversary may not be liked, they can be respected and their words can certainly ring true; it can be why they are an adversary in the first place.
