To be innocent and to be jaded.
Innocence is romanticized to degrees that do not account for the inconvenient realities of life. The ideas and expectations associated with innocence prop up a glass menagerie of sorts; delicate ornaments held captive that are unlike the flesh, blood, bones, and imperfections that come with being human and experiencing the world.
Jadedness tends to accompany knowingness about the world once a certain degree of experience is acquired. There is heaviness involved with knowing and perhaps jealousy toward those with more of a bright-eyed view. But to have it overtake allows for a prison-like effect similar to a menagerie. The only difference is that you are captor as well as captive.
